The famous and enthralling interview between three major French singers : Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel and Léo Ferré is on set at the Studio-Theatre of Paris.
Back in the time, a 24 year old young man named François-René Cristiani conducted the interview with brio. As the discussion went on many topics were tackled such as the beginnings, writing, private life, religion, politics and the role of women also. What this young journalist ignored was that this interview would make history as it was the first and last time these 3 major French singers would meet at the same time in the same place.
The reenactment interview is being played in a room which does not host more than 150 seats. The room is dark with a mirror in the background reflecting the audience. The darkness is wrapping a white square table on which stands a few empty bottles. At every corner of it sat our four protagonists circled by us viewers. From left to right were Grégory Gadebois as Brassens, Stéphane Varupenne as François-René Cristiani, from behind Eric Ruf as Brel and Laurent Stocker as Ferré. The contrast between the black space and the white table emphazises the unreal. Besides this table can rotate on itself randomly. There's also a steam machine which creates a mask around the characters blurring their face from time to time as the steam smoothly winding itself around. As viewers we are like an omnipresent god viewing the same scene in different angles without any control as if we were in a dream.
I think this interview is great because as a 60s lover I enjoy this freedom of speech that we don't really see anymore as far as French TV is concerned. Each person expresses himself very freely without any restrictions. Brassens is always talking precisely and perceptively Ferre the bon vivant takes the role of the "social-linker) between his colleagues, Brel a bit more reserved but much more radical with clearcut opinions. Everytime he's talking his words are heavy and clear. The three of them definitely make an incredible team.
The actors play the roles very professionally like perfect cameleons. We could almost see the real characters through them.
